Bringing Halloween to Life: The Story Behind Our DIY Paint Kits

Bringing Halloween to Life: The Story Behind Our DIY Paint Kits

When we started R&W Made, one thing we knew from the beginning was that we didn’t want to just 3D print random stuff and put it up for sale.

We wanted to create our own characters, build our own ideas, and eventually create a whole world around them.

That’s really where our Halloween DIY Paint Kits came from.

It Started With the Characters

Everything starts with an idea.

Before these characters ever touched a 3D printer, they started as concepts. We designed different personalities, outfits, poses, and details until we had a Halloween lineup that actually felt like R&W Made.

We ended up creating a whole crew, including characters like Jackz, Orbitz, Pumpko, Posh, Blaze, Noir, Brickz, Smilez, Phantom, Howlz, and Jayce.

But once we started printing them, another idea hit us.

Instead of us painting every character ourselves, why not let you paint them?

That changed the whole direction.

We Print. You Paint.

That’s where “We Print • You Paint” really started making sense.

We handle the designing and printing. You get the character and decide what happens next.

There’s no “correct” way your character has to look.

Want a traditional orange and black Halloween character? Do it.

Want a pink pumpkin with blue shoes? Go crazy.

Want to paint one character with your kids and another one yourself? That works too.

The point is making something that’s actually yours.

And being a father was a big part of why I liked this idea so much. Having kids changed the way I look at having a 3D printer. They can ask me for something, and instead of always going to a store looking for it, sometimes I can literally make it.

With these kits, I wanted other families to experience a little bit of that feeling too.

More Than Just a Figure

Each Halloween Paint Kit is built around one of our 5-inch 3D-printed characters.

The idea is simple: open the kit, grab your paint and brushes, and start creating.

You don’t need to be an artist.

That’s actually part of the fun.

Kids can paint them. Parents can paint with their kids. Couples can grab two characters and turn it into a paint night. Adults who just like collectibles can customize one for their desk, gaming setup, shelf, or workspace.

Everybody can make the exact same character look completely different.

That’s what makes this more interesting to us than simply selling a finished figure.

You’re part of the process.

Building R&W Made One Print at a Time

We’re still early.

And I actually want people following R&W Made to see that part.

We’re designing the characters, testing prints, removing supports, sanding pieces, figuring out packaging, shooting product photos, creating videos, and learning what works as we go.

Some prints come out perfect.

Some don’t.

Sometimes a character takes four hours to print and we realize something needs to change afterward.

Then we fix it and run it again.

That’s part of building this.

We don’t want R&W Made to look like some giant company pretending everything was figured out from day one. We’re building this in real time.

The Halloween collection is one of the first steps toward something much bigger.

This Is Just the Beginning

Halloween gave us the perfect opportunity to introduce the idea, but we’re definitely not stopping here.

We’re already thinking about new characters, different themes, seasonal collections, collectibles, accessories, and other things we can create around the R&W Made universe.

Some pieces you’ll be able to paint.

Some will be finished collectibles.

Some might only release in small quantities.

But the goal stays the same:

Create something different.

Something that started as an idea, became a design, turned into a physical print, and eventually ended up in somebody else’s hands.

That’s the part of 3D printing that still gets me.

You can literally watch an idea become real.

And now we’re giving you the opportunity to put the finishing touches on it.

Follow The R&W Journal

This is only the beginning.

Follow The R&W Journal as we document the prints, characters, ideas, mistakes, wins, and everything that goes into building R&W Made from the ground up.

You’ll get to see what happens behind the finished product — from the first idea and character design to the print bed, paint table, packaging, and eventually the drop.

We’re building R&W Made in real time, and we want you along for the process.

We Print • You Paint.

CREATE • PRINT • COLLECT.
